How to make money from your farm building

Running a farm sure isn’t cheap, and with energy bills constantly creeping up it’s no wonder farmers are looking for ways to run their farms more efficiently. Luckily there are lots of ways to not only save, but also make money as you spend it on your farm building.

Running a Biomass Boiler is one way of lowering your fuel costs, providing a practical and efficient heating solution for farms and also giving farmers the opportunity to make their money back and enter the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). The RHI pays participants of the scheme that generate and use renewable energy to heat their buildings. Commercial Biomass Boilers can now payback in approximately 3-5 years depending on the application and fuel selection.

Solar Panels are also becoming more common on farms since the introduction of financial incentives for installing renewable technologies. Similar to biomass boilers they provide an alternative energy solution whilst making money. The FIT is the UK government’s main tool for stimulating the Solar Panel market. Many scales of Solar Panel system benefit from this incentive, including both Domestic scale Solar Panels and Commercial scale Solar Panels up to 5MWp (5,000kWp).
